Painting with Dylan M
June 5th - 9th, 2024

During this summer retreat Dylan M, working illustrator and teacher to 140k students worldwide, will be leading you through various gouache painting demonstrations to get you loosened up and settled in with your sketchbook. A sketchbook practice is the clearest route to making art that satisfies, yet many artists struggle with knowing where to start or how to harness the gusto to keep going. Dylan will show retreat attendees that creating memorable and wonderful works of art, and growing a stable and nourishing sketchbook practice, doesn't have to be daunting, difficult, or full of pressure.

Beyond our painting sessions and mealtimes together, we'll also practice quick morning pages (a journaling practice to clear out the mental cobwebs), answer any questions that come up during sessions or while looking through my past sketchbooks, snap pictures of flowers around the property, and most importantly eat snacks in the barn.

This retreat feels like a casual summer camp for adults who would like a little creative get-away with people who somehow already get you.

Dylan Mierzwinski (“M” for short) is an illustrator and painter living in the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix, Arizona. A top teacher on Skillshare, Dylan is known for her warmth, ability to communicate difficult ideas clearly, and bold and retro botanical illustrations. As a self-taught artist, Dylan has enthusiastically grown into her position in the art world as a creative cheerleader, sharer of helpful keyboard shortcuts, and combiner of unexpected colors. She enjoys waving at dogs, quoting Michael Scott, and encouraging people to talk about their feelings (not a joke).
